Foundation is a must in a woman’s make up kit. This make up must-have makes your face perfect for applying different types of facial make up. Make up artists cannot apply make up without the right foundation.

If you want to know how to choose the right foundation to use, here are some considerations.

•	Decide whether you need an oil-free or a creamy product for your skin. This depends on your skin type. Oil-free product is perfect for oily skin while creamy foundation is good for dry skin.
•	Decide whether you want to have sheer or heavy coverage. This depends on the look that you are trying to achieve. For everyday look, you might want to go for sheer or natural coverage.
•	When buying foundations, you should apply a small amount of the product on your jaw line to check whether the color suits your face well. The foundation always looks a tad darker while it is still inside its container.

These are just some considerations when choosing foundations. Now for the application, here are some tips that you should know.

•	Make sure that your hands and face are clean before you apply anything on your face.
•	Before the foundation, make sure that you moisture your face thoroughly. You can also apply facial sunscreen on your face before the foundation. This will make the foundation smooth and even on your skin. Leave the moisturizer for a few minutes. Remove any excess moisturizing cream or sunscreen.
•	Cover dark spots under your eyes or on your face by using a concealer.
•	To apply the foundation, you can use the tip of your finger or a make up sponge. Make up artists use a make up brush. Just dab small amounts of foundation on your head, cheeks, and chin. Spread these small amounts all over your face.
•	You need to apply loose powder over the foundation for a more finished look.

If you want to add color to your pale face, you should consider using blush on your cheeks. This is one way to instantly make your cheeks rosy and to make you look less like a person who just came back from the dead.

Blush make up comes in two basic types cream and powder. If you have oily skin, you should consider using powder blush. If you have dry skin, on the other hand, the cream type is your best bet. In applying this facial make up, here are some tips that you should know.

•	After exercising or exerting yourself, check the color of your cheeks. Your cheeks are usually flushed after doing some strenuous physical activity. This is the color that you should go for. This is the natural radiance of your cheeks. Choose a cheek make up that has the same or similar color as your natural glow.
•	You should apply this cheek make up after the foundation and your eye make up. It should complement all the other make ups on your face.
•	When applying the powder type, you should use a round brush for easy application. It also makes the color more even and natural. For cream blush, you can use the tip of your finger.
•	Look in the mirror and smile. Find the apple of your cheeks. This is where you should apply your cheek make up. You should apply the make up from your cheekbone to your hairline. This will make the color look more natural. You would look like a clown if you have two big spots of red or pink on your cheeks.
•	You can also apply the make up on the whole area of your cheeks to make it even more natural.
•	Wash your hands thoroughly once you are done with your make up. This can stain your hands.

Wearing make up is necessary for most women, especially those who are working in a corporate setting or those who go to school. However, once you are at home, you should remove your make up off your face to allow your face to breathe. After being covered with a layer of cosmetic products all day, your facial pores and skin need to breathe.

Once you arrive home or before going to bed, it is important to remove your make up to allow your facial pores and skin to breathe. Here are some tips for taking off make up.

•	One tip for taking off make up is to remove your make up gently. Do not rub on your face briskly as this may hurt your face and may even cause damage. You can dab on, wipe, wash, or steam your face but do not rub.
•	The first thing that you should do is to remove your eye make up. Eye make up requires special attention. Apply the make up remover on your eyes. Do it gently. You do not want the make up remover and your eye make up to go into your eyes.
•	Another tip for taking off make up is steam your face to open and clean the pores. Cover your head with a towel and steam your face near hot water. The stem will open your facial pores and will remove dirt and traces of make up that has been inside your pores. If you do not remove these from your pores, they will cause skin breakouts or pimples.
•	Remove your lipstick and lip liner using petroleum jelly. Apply the petroleum jelly on your lips and wipe your lips with a clean tissue.
•	Wash your face using a gentle face wash. Remove all traces of make up on your face. Wash your face with cool water to close the pores. Finally, apply moisturizer on your face to hydrate your skin.

If you are one of the many women who wear make up everyday, you should know how dangerous to is for your kin. Try not to wear as much make up if you can help it. But if you can’t help it and you really need to wear make up, just make sure that you know how to remove them when you arrive home or when it is time for you to go to bed.

Some women think that it will do them no harm if they sleep with their make up still on their face. This is not true. Make ups cause breakouts and pimples. They also make the aging process of your skin faster. To prevent these problems, make sure that you take off your make up as soon as you can. To give you some information about this, here are some tips for cleaning and washing your face after putting on make up.

•	Be sure to remove your make up first before washing your face. You can use make up remover for your eye make up or petroleum jelly for your lipstick. Remove these make ups as thoroughly and gently as you can.
•	Before washing your face, open your pores by steaming your face near hot water. Opening your pores will allow you to clean the insides of your pores. This prevents skin problems such as acne and even wrinkles.
•	Use a gentle face wash to clean your face. This should remove all traces of make up on your face. Once you have removed the make up off your face, wash your face with cold water to close the pores. Some women still use toners but this is not necessary according to most dermatologists. Facial wash already has the necessary ingredients to thoroughly clean your face without the need to use a toner.
•	Once you have completely cleaned your face, apply moisturizer.

There would always be two sides to a coin and to a story, we all know that. The same applies to the use of make-up. There are certain pros and cons of using make-up that one needs to know before deciding if they want to give it a try or not. Shall we get started?

Pros

It’s no secret that most people wear make-up as a way of beautifying themselves. Indeed, it is a very effective tool for this purpose, especially if done by talented hands. There are all sorts of products available that were designed to play up our best features and cover the flaws that we’d rather not show the world. For some, it gives them a boost in their self-esteem and makes them feel good about themselves. Of course, we could all use that extra confidence.

It is also readily available thus allowing people from all walks of life the chance to make use of it.

Cons

Whilst there are certainly plenty of great things about the use of make-up, there are also quite a number of disadvantages with regards to it. The first of which would be the most obvious, its negative effects on our skin. Sure, there are certain products that were formulated to be gentle but this cannot be said for the majority of the products available out there.

It should also be noted that there are people who tend to use make-up as a kind of mask and this is certainly not good for their psyche. Make-up was never meant to cover up who you are as a person but was designed to highlight a person’s beauty. There are those who get addicted to using it and this is certainly never a good thing.

Remember, with everything, moderation is key. The same rings true for make-up as well. The general rule here would be “Less is More”.

These days, both men and women are enjoying the liberty of getting to wear make up on an everyday basis. However, not everyone is actually aware of the fact that there are different types of make up available. All of which were specifically designed to highlight a particular area of our face. To help you get acquainted, here’s a quick overview:

Lipstick – one of the most commonly used make up types. This is intended to be used on the lips in order to add color as well as texture. There are also certain varieties of it that have chemicals in it that would make our lips appear plumper than usual without the need for expensive collagen injections.

Foundation – considered as the base, it is applied on our face to even out our skin tone and give it a smooth, velvety feel. It comes in a variety of colors as well as coverage types. So whether you’re looking for something thick or sheer in terms of coverage, you would be able to find something that suits your needs.

Blush – also referred to as rouge, this is used on our cheekbones in order to add more color. Typically, it is made of talcum or powder but there are variations today that come in either gel or cream form.

Eye shadow – this serves the same purpose as the blush but is applied on the eyelids and under our eyebrows instead. It draws more attention to that particular area and is used to create depth and dimension.

Mascara – this goes right on our eyelashes in order to make them appear fuller, thicker, darker and longer. The different variations of this can come in either liquid or cream form and is applied with the use of a mascara wand.

Eyeliner – this appears in the form of a thin pencil with kohl inside. It is often used together with the eye shadow in order to further define the eyes and give it more depth. These commonly come in either black or brown but one would also be able to find them in lighter and more colorful hues.

Are you interested in developing a career in cosmetology? Well, there are quite a number of things that you ought to know about. The first of which would be the fact that cosmetology is a general term pertaining to the practice of creating beauty. In other words, it focuses not just on the person’s skin but also includes other aspects of their beauty such as their hair and nails. A licensed cosmetologist would be able to work with all three mediums but most cosmeticians tend to pick and choose one to specialize in. To help you understand better, here’s a quick rundown.

Skin – This would include make-up artists, estheticians and skin care specialist. Basically, this aspect of being a cosmetician pretty much covers anything and everything that has to deal with a person’s skin. That, by itself, could open up doors for various job opportunities.

Hair – This includes hair stylists and barbers. There are quite a number of things that go into practicing this profession and of course, you would be required to learn everything that’s related to it. After all, you would need a license that would give you the right to work in your own salon or as a freelance stylist.

Nails – Manicurists fall under this category. If you want to work as a nail artist and create all sorts of nail designs for people then this would be a good choice for you. It might be considered to be the least versatile of all the careers available in this field but it is still in demand.

Cosmetology is certainly a great field to be working with if you have that innate ability to make a person simply radiant. After all, it is a pretty competitive industry and only those with real talent last. So if you’re thinking about getting into it and giving it a go, do consider enrolling yourself in a beauty school in order to learn every little thing that’s associated with the trade.

The topic of make-up and the early use by Egyptians is truly an interesting one to ponder. This is because besides using it for aesthetic purposes; they also approached make-up in an almost ritualistic kind of way. It was ornamental, magical, medicinal and spiritual. Back in ancient Egypt, it was not uncommon to find both men and women wearing make-up. In fact, the art of using make-up was a highly valued skill and was practiced throughout the land. The most common colors for the eyes were green and black which signified rebirth and fertility in the next life. As for their lips, it was usually painted blue black or red.

For Egyptians, their eye make-up served more than the purpose of beautifying them. In fact, it also served as psychic protection. They believed that unadorned eyes were unprotected and as such, considered to be vulnerable to the Evil Eye. This made outlining the eyes an everyday ritual and served the purpose of being a protective amulet that’s drawn right on the skin.

Where did they get their colors from? Well, the ancient Egyptians are very resourceful people and they were able to derive make-up from various minerals. The downside to this, however, was the fact that they used minerals that caused more harm than good. This includes both copper and lead which often gave people rashes, skin infections and in worst case scenarios, even death.

Eye colors serve spiritual purposes for these people. The two different types of eye make-up were referred to as Mesdemet and Udju. Medesment is dark grey in color and was typically made out of lead. Udju is of a greenish hue and was derived from copper. Udju worked as a sort of anti-depressant which was capable of imbuing a person with positive energy, happiness and love.

So there you have it, a brief history on how the early Egyptians made use of make-up and what purpose it served in their everyday lives.

These days, make-up has become so commonplace that even men have started to experiment in wearing them as well. However, did you know that what seems like a new and very recent innovation could actually trace its beginnings back to the time of the Ancient Egyptians?

A Brief History

Women’s makeup was first used during the time of the Ancient Egyptians who were the first people to discover the use of minerals for makeup bases. However, because of the fact that there really weren’t any formal scientific laboratories back then, the Ancient Egyptians made use of some pretty harmful minerals to color their skin.

These would be copper and lead. Both of which did more harm than good to their skins. These substances caused various skin infections, rashes and other illnesses that would sometimes lead to death due to overuse. Perhaps this is where the phrase “Dying for Beauty” originated from.

Fast forward to Ancient Rome where it was common for both men and women to rim their eyes with coal, just like the modern eyeliner. These people also whitened their faces with chalk and added a bit of blush through the use of natural dyes which they derived from red rocks. When the Middle Ages and the Renaissance came around, both men and women extremely valued pale skin.

In order to achieve that, they made use of all sorts of materials including ones that were very harmful such as lead paint. In fact, Queen Elizabeth I used this herself. Through the 1700’s and the 1800’s red rouge and bright lipstick was the look du jour. In general, both men and women wore make up until the mid 1800’s.

These days, fortunately, manufacturers are able to produce make-up that’s safe to use. Can you imagine painting your face with white lead paint? Needless to say, make-up has certainly evolved and both men and women should be thankful for the changes that happened along the way.
