The secret to reaping the greatest benefits out of your moisturizer is to know which formula is best for different types of skin. Whether you purchase the $4 jar in the corner drugstore or the $40 high-end variety wouldn’t matter much if your moisturizer doesn’t fit in your skin type. Your skin type depends on the rate of its oil production. In order for you to understand this better, let’s discuss the different skin types, their characteristics and the kind of moisture they require.

1.	Dry skin is characterized by a feeling of tightness and tingling. This is especially evident after washing the face and the body. If you can make a writing board out of your skin by running your fingernail across, you most definitely have dry skin. People with dry skin are prone to experience flaking, redness and wrinkles. If you have dry skin, better slather on moisturizers with these ingredients: glycerin, petrolatum, cocoa butter or mineral oil. These are top ingredients in sealing in moisture within the skin.

2.	Oily skin is so-called because of its shiny and greasy characteristics. Oily skin is prone to breakouts and blackheads because the excess oil production tends to clog up the pores. Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you should skip moisturizing. The excess oil produced is not enough to hydrate the skin. Look for a product that is non-comedogenic, or doesn’t clog pores.

3.	Normal skin is characterized by a healthy color and smooth texture. It has the tendency to get dry on the cheeks and oily on the t-zone. Normal skin benefits from most types of moisturizer.

4.	Sensitive skin is characterized by easy flushing, redness and rashes. It has fine pores and is prone to broken capillaries. The best type of moisturizer for sensitive skin is that with natural ingredients, as chemicals tend to trigger allergies. Test moisturizers on a tiny patch of skin to determine how it reacts to the composition before buying an entire bottle.

The last decade has seen the boom in the spa industry, thanks to innovative treatments such as the paraffin wax. The paraffin wax treatment is a luxurious and relaxing spa therapy that answers people’s quest for softer and smoother skin. This procedure takes advantage of the paraffin’s heat transfer and retaining capacity. Because of paraffin’s oil component, blocks of paraffin wax melt at a lower temperature than most types of wax.

The heat of which also makes it tolerable to touch. Paraffin wax also has the ability to retain heat, which makes it adept at transferring heat without losing it quickly. What goes on during paraffin wax treatment? When the paraffin wax has completely melted, hands or feet are dipped in it. The heat is not at all scalding; on the contrary, it is actually relaxing. The treatment is completed once the wax has solidified, where it is then easily peeled off.

Skin is obviously softer and smoother after even just one treatment. The softening properties of paraffin wax lie on its ability to open up pores and improve total circulation in the skin. This treatment is not only for those with dry skin, people who wish to avoid getting dry skin also seek this treatment. This is especially true with those who live in very cold weather since dry skin will make the cold even more unbearable. Some spas incorporate aromatherapy in the paraffin wax treatment by putting in fragrant oils such as chamomile, lavender and hydrangea oils.

Aside from its cosmetic purpose, paraffin wax treatment is also used in treating sore muscles. As the heat is transferred from the paraffin to the injured body part, muscles’ tightness and tension are loosened, thereby providing quick relief. What started off as a finishing touch to a manicure and a pedicure (seals in cuticles) is now a widely sought lavish spa treatment.

Before you can fully understand the types and causes of varicose and spider veins, you must be cognizant about the three types of blood vessels found in the body. These blood vessels include the arteries, which are responsible in carrying oxygen-rich blood from your heart to the body; the capillaries where used blood that come from the body tissues are transported in exchange of oxygen and blood that is rich in nutrients; and the veins, which complete the whole cycle by bringing the used blood back to your heart.

There are one-way valves that are located inside the veins that ensure the right flow of blood towards the heart given the pressure that is coming from the heart, which is essential in sending blood on the arteries. There are certain causes that lead to the malfunction of the valves. As a result, the veins are then engorged with blood. The veins, once this occurs, will twist and swell, thus making these noticeable on the skin’s surface, especially on the legs and feet. This condition that can be painful is called varicose and spider veins. This kind of situation is more likely to happen on women than on men.

If you are suffering from this, you will feel the itching and burning sensation on the affected parts. These can also swell and ache a lot. This condition is accompanied by small veins that look similar to spider’s cobwebs, thus its name. The main cause of this condition is hereditary factor. It is also likely to happen to pregnant women, and people who subject themselves to long periods of standing, aging and obesity. Compression stockings can help treat the condition that can really become unattractive, aside from the fact that it is painful. You can also choose to undergo surgical removal, light source and laser treatment to get rid of the problem.

If you intend to have these treated, you have to seek the help of the right professional. They can discuss with you the other options that you have regarding the processes and procedures that can help you deal and overcome the condition.

You might be fascinated in tattoos. You may be planning to get one. It is just that you haven’t gathered enough courage to go one. The original machine used for tattooing was invented by Samuel O’Reilly in the latter part of the 1800s.

The design was based on an autographic printer that was an engraving machine created by Thomas Edison. The printer’s purpose was to engrave on hard surfaces. This was modified by O’Reilly to allow the equipment to be able to drive the needle. Over time, few modifications have been done to O’Reilly’s designs.

The modern machines for tattooing include basic components.

These have a tube system that draws ink through the machine, an electric motor, a sterilized needle, and foot pedal that is similar to the kinds that are used in sewing machines. The foot pedal is responsible in controlling the vertical movement of the machine’s needle.

A person’s tattoo is actually the visible ink on a person’s epidermis, which is the outer layer of the skin. This ink is actually placed on the dermis or the second layer of the skin. This is because of the fact that the cells on the dermis are more constant than the ones that are found on the epidermis. This assures you that the ink of the tattoo will stay put and will only suffer from minor fading or a bit of scattering for the life period of the tattoo’s bearer.

Tattoo artists will first wash their hands before performing the process. They will make sure that they don’t have any cuts and abrasions on their hands. After the inspection, the will make sure that the work area is clean and treat it with a disinfectant, such as an EPA-approved viricide. Plastic bags are placed on spray bottles to avoid cross-contamination.

When you approach a tattoo artist, they will brief you about the process of sterilization and they will remove all the tools that will be used on your skin from the sterile packaging in front of you. After these precautions, they will shave the area where you want the tattoo to be placed and disinfect it with water and antiseptic soap. After all these steps, this is when the real process of tattooing will begin.

Eczema or Atopic Dermatitis is the condition of the skin where it is flaky, dry, itchy and red. The cause of this is lack of immunity of your skin because of not enough moisture. This kind of disease would not be cured over night. It is one of those chronic diseases. Anyone, from any age group, could get this but majority of the victims of this disease are babies and infants. So make sure to take care of your baby’s skin and be careful about the food that you are going to feed her.

So what are the symptoms of this chronic disease? It is good that you know these so you would know when to consult a dermatologist. A sudden discoloration of your skin can be one symptom. There is no need to panic when you see some uneven colors on your skin but monitoring it is not bad either. The secret here is to always check every part of your skin and body. Next is flaking and scaling of your skin. Another is itchiness and forming of blisters. After a while, due to constant scratching, your skin will get thickened. In a matter of time you can already feel this thickened part. Panicking would not get you anywhere but if seeing a doctor would make you sleep at night, then go and consult a doctor.

Since Eczema is a chronic disease, curing it is a hard thing to do but you can do something to at least control it from itching and swelling. Because this is caused by lack in moisture, the first thing that you should do is moisturize and clean it everyday. You should use hypoallergenic products and make sure that everything is recommended by your trusted dermatologist. Another thing that can trigger this is your allergies so avoid those foods where you have allergies. To ease itchiness you can also take antihistamines. Doctors can also prescribe you if you need to undergo medication. Just be careful about it. Do not try those medicines that are claiming that they can cure eczema without consulting your doctor.

Epidermolysis Bullosa is a disease that can be inherited. It could appear after birth or soon after it. There are no gender specifications when it comes to this disease. Girls and boys could be affected. Most of the time, this disease is still benign in a child but things would be getting worse as a child gains age.

Those families with history of this disease should be watchful especially if a new baby is born because there is a possibility that the baby will acquire this kind of disease. These are the symptoms of Epidermolysis Bullosa. These symptoms can be observed right after a child is born. Having a difficulty in breathing, swallowing and crying are included. Take note of that. Blisters in most part of the body should also be observed. Another is abnormality in teeth and nails.

If you see at least one of these symptoms, you should have it checked by the doctors. Number of tests would be done if necessary. Genetic testing, Skin Biopsy and other skin tests would be done accordingly if your doctor senses something wrong.

There are also treatments that should be done if you or your child is diagnosed with this kind of disease. Your doctor would tell you if you need to cover the blisters with bandage or not. And if there is a need for it to be covered, he would also tell you what kind to use. Good hygiene would also help a lot to avoid infections. Aside from visiting your doctor regularly, have time to visit a dentist too. Have the proper diet and be aware of what food to eat and what food to avoid. Always wear something clean and you should always stay in a cool place. Do not wear fitted clothes that would irritate your skin. These are just some of the many things that you should avoid and do when you have the disease or if you are experiencing the symptoms.

For those soon to be parents, you should undergo genetics counselling if you have a history of this disease. This would lessen, if not completely eliminate, the probability of you having a baby with Epidermolysis Bullosa.

Folliculitis is a kind disease where the hair follicles are infected. You can get this from damaging your hair follicles from abrasions, scratching and shaving. Your Hair follicles after being damaged would be infected by a certain bacteria called Staphylococcus. This disease can happen in almost every part of your body. Others call this disease, barber’s itch since there are many cases that the beard part of the face is infected because of razors.

The symptoms of this disease include pimples, rashes, itchiness, blisters, scars and the like. It is also painful so you would surely know if something is wrong with you. If you feel or see any of these symptoms it is still the best to consult a dermatologist or doctor but there is no need to panic.

This kind of disease caused by infections can go away with or without treatment depending on how bad the case is. Only the doctors can tell you how severe a Folliculitis is so make sure to visit one when you feel something.

If you are already diagnosed with this kind of disease the best thing to do is to prevent it from getting bigger. You could wear baggy and comfortable clothes to avoid your skin rubbing to the garment. Do not shave the infected part unless necessary. If that is the case, you should do it carefully. Keep it clean by not exposing it to dirt and by wearing clean clothes always. Eat healthy food that would help moisturize your skin and repair the damages in your hair follicles. Then, stay away from salty food like peanuts because this kind of food doesn’t help and can even prolong the disease.

Folliculitis can come back anytime so you should be careful. Also, it can also infect other parts of your body so remember to keep it clean. But always remember that prevention is always better than cure so make it up to the point to take care of your body. Do not use razor and blades that often. Always consult your doctors if you feel any symptoms. If you have been diagnosed for something like this, never try to take medicines that are not prescribed by your doctor to avoid complications.

Frostbite is a kind of illness that you can get from cold. It would start from small bumpy skins but it would soon turn into blisters. This illness can be classified in to two categories. The first one is superficial and the other one is deep frostbite. These two classifications are described with two different symptoms. The first category is when there are patches that are color yellow or gray.

These will soon be red and flaky. For the latter one, skin seems waxy and blisters would soon be formed. Your skin would also feel stiff and numb when you get this. Sometimes, frostbite is accompanied by hypothermia. Do not underestimate this because it might caused death especially if happens together with hypothermia. This is a very severe case so you should know how to do first aid.

Now, if you feel any symptoms of this, you should now keep yourself warm. These are the things that you should do. Just stay calm so you could do things properly. You should tear off the part of clothing where the frostbite is. You could now put the affected part into warm water or put a warm compress. After that you can cover it with a clean, sterilized piece of garment or gauze and please do not use alcohol. Stop yourself from touching it because this might only lead to complication. As much as possible, do not move it also. This is only a first aid, a temporary treatment so it is still best to call a doctor.

Prevention is still better than cure so remember to wear something that will keep you warm during rainy, snowy and other cold days but do not wear too fitted clothing. During these days, you should always drink something warm and eat something healthy. If it is possible, it is better to just stay at home during these cold days. Too much intake of alcohol could also cause you frostbites so drink moderately or do not drink at all especially when the temperature is so low. You could always have fun but do not forget to be extra careful at times like this. You can never be so sure. Frostbite during snowy days would cut-off the fun.

How To Treat Frostbite

Granuloma Annulare is a chronic disease that might appear in your skin as ring of red, bumpy spots. These spots usually appear on knees, hands, ankles and wrist but any part of the body is possible. Anyone can get this disease but according to reports there is a higher possibility that this disease would be acquired by women. The very odd thing about this disease is that the cause is still unknown. They are sometimes linking this disease to diabetes and some problems in the immune system but none of them are proven.

Like other diseases, Granuloma Annulare has categories. The most common among these categories is the localized category. This is the case where one’s red spots would eventually wear off. Other category is called generalized, this case is more severe than the localized one because there are more rings of spots here and the chance of it wearing off is lower than the first category. Another category is perforating. In this category, the lesions are just small that are usually located in hands. Lesions are the abnormalities in the skin tissues, in this case the red, bumpy spots. Another one is subcutaneous, unlike perforating the lesions here are big.

There are no definite symptoms to this disease except from the red, bumpy spots. This disease doesn’t require any treatment but unless you want to have. But since the cause of this disease is still unknown, the experts say that still the best treatment for this is not having any treatment at all. No need to worry about this because it would eventually be gone but if you are conscious about the appearance of your skin, you could ask for some treatment from your doctor so it would go off faster. Your doctor would probably give you ointments and cream. If they think it is severe, they would prescribe you to have an ultraviolet treatment or they can give you medications. Granuloma Annulare doesn’t leave scars but for some, it might take a very long time before the red, bumpy spots wear off.

Since the cause is unknown, just try to live a healthy lifestyle and take care of your skin as much as you can to avoid having these bumps on your skin.
