There are many different myths when it comes to the use of sun screen. The unfortunate thing is that these myths are often misleading, and as such, make people believe that they are protecting themselves properly when they really aren’t. Now, in order to make sure that every person is aptly protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays, here are two of the most popular sun block myths – debunked!

Myth 1: Sun block would provide you with total protection – Well, the truth is that there is no sun block or screen in existence that is capable of providing you with that kind of protection. The general idea here is that the higher the SPF, the better the protection. Basically, if you’re using SPF 15 then you’re 93% protected, SPF 30 means you’re 97% protected and SPF 50 – 60 means that you’re 98% protected. Now, getting the highest SPF might seem like the best idea here but do note of the fact that the higher the SPF, the higher levels of harsh chemicals it contains.

Myth 2: An SPF 60+ would provide you with double the protection of an SPF 30 sun block – This is certainly false and is also one of the major reasons as to why the FDA has decided to put a cap on the higher SPF’s. Between SPF 30 and SPF 60, there is about 1.6% in terms of difference when it comes to protection. This isn’t much considering the fact that the SPF 60 version can potentially put more toxins into your body.

Now that we have exposed the truth with regards to those sun screen myths, here a good tip when it comes to buying sun block. Always do your research. Sure, it might be just a bottle of lotion or cream but you’re still putting it on your skin and you expect it to protect you from the sun’s UV rays. That is what you’re paying for and as such, you would want to know if it’s genuinely safe for you to use.

Whether you’re checking in at an out-of-town hotel or about to enjoy a soak in your own bathtub, a bath bomb is a luxurious way to unwind and leave skin refreshed while leaving a fabulous aroma that can be quite conducive for a restful sleep afterward.

A good choice for a bath bomb that adds fizz and transform an ordinary bath experience into something really special, is one which uses a host of all-natural essential oils and fragrances and does not leave an oil reside behind. Some bath bombs are formulated with essential oils that have calming benefits, can promote restful sleep, or restore the individual’s sense of balance. It’s no secret that herbal remedies can ease nervous or anxious feelings and emotional fatigue. Some herbs that are included in bath bombs are chamomile, hops, sandalwood, and valerian.

For an invigorating soak, fill your tub with warm water. When it’s half full, drop the bath bomb which will then dissolve for the next couple of minutes. Put unused bath bombs in a dry area of your room.

Basic Bath Bomb

Ingredients

1 part citric acid
2 parts baking soda
Witch hazel
Coloring (food coloring) of your choice
Fragrance oil of your choice
Dome Shaped Mold

Directions:

Blend the citric acid and baking soda – this step is important – if you don’t them blend well, you may end up with a grainy bomb. You can use a mixer on larger batches.
After blending previous ingredients well, add your colorant. Dry pigments or a specialty bath fizzy colorant like La Bombes work best – don’t add too much – the color appears once you add the witch hazel.
Add the fragrance oils to suit your personal nose preference.
Now, this is the critical part. Spritz (with a squirt bottle) the witch hazel onto your batch while stirring with the other hand. When your batch sticks together when squished, you need to start putting it in molds – time is of the essence. If you wait too long, the mixture will harden. If you spritz too much, the mixture will get soggy and “grow” (starting the fizzing reaction) on you.
Put the bombs in molds – wait a few minutes and tap them out. Let them air dry for 4 hours and voila! Wonderful, hard bath bombs. The harder you pack the bath bombs, the more dense, heavy, and durable bomb you get.
