The Gift of a Normal Skin
Human skin is classified by types. Classification is based on its general health condition: moisture content, texture and appearance. More than 50% of all the people in the world have problems with skin dehydration and oiliness. This is why having a healthy “normal” skin can be called a rare gift.
Natural skin can easily be spotted. The sizes of the pores are just right. They are not too big to catch dirt and cause pimples. And they are not too small to disallow the skin to breathe.
The first sign, and most easily seen, of a natural skin is color. Notice that a healthy skin has a pinkish glow. This is a result of healthy diet and lifestyle. The pinkish glow is an indication of sufficient skin-friendly vitamins.
It is usually free from discoloration. Natural skin has no blotchiness, or dark circles. Because of its stability, it has a degree of tolerance against allergens and harsh chemicals. There are no ridges or scaling on different body parts.
The activity of sebaceous (oil producer) glands is also normal. The amount of oil secretion is just enough to maintain moisture. Because of this, the skin feels smooth but not greasy. Even during midday, there is no increased oiliness on the skin. It remains smooth and non-sticky, all day long.
Dry skin feels very thin while oily skin feels very thick. Normal skin has the right depth and texture. A sign of good health is fair elasticity. Try to pull or pinch your facial skin. If it quickly jumps back, it is healthy.
Remember that the beautiful condition of normal skin is not permanent or indestructible. Exposure to dirt, allergens, chemicals and extreme temperature may damage it. One must continue proper cleansing-moisturizing routines for their faces and the rest of their bodies. Harsh and heavy formulated cleansers must be avoided too.
